Student Scholarship Program

Basin Electric Power Cooperative, Tri-State Generation and Transmission, and Northwest Rural Public Power District are offering college scholarships to students in our service territory.  The scholarships are available each school year.

Basin Electric Power Cooperative, located in Bismarck, North Dakota, offers one $1,000 scholarship to a qualifying senior whose family is served by Northwest Rural Public Power District.  Tri-State Generation and Transmission, our power supplier in Denver, and Northwest Rural Public Power District provide two scholarships ($500.00 each) to students in our district.

The scholarship program recognizes and encourages the academic achievements of students in Northwest Rural’s region.  It also serves as an investment in the economic future of rural areas.  The scholarships must be used for educational costs, and the student must enter college in the fall of the school year for which the scholarships are given.

Applicants for the scholarships must be U.S. citizens and the dependents of member system employees or consumers.  Applicants also must be students enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time undergraduate or graduate course of study at an accredited, two-year or four –year college, university or vocational / technical school.  Scholarship recipients will be chosen based on a combination of SAT/ACT scores and overall grade point average, work experience, participation in school and community activities.  A personal statement of career goals (approximately 1-2 pages) and a written recommendation by a third party are also required.
